P.A. Performances at M.A.A.A. Young Meet

Saturday 11 July was the turn of our youngsters to show their talent on T & F after such a long wait.  Our first mention of the competition however must go towards the number of spectators that put aside other pleasures to brave the summer heat to come and encourage our valiant youngsters, where the club had on show a full one-third of the participants competing.  Looking back and analysing results, it must be declared that pride of place goes, hands down, to our Under 12 category, each one able to compete in up to four events.

Here it was the boys who turned on the power, our members winning all FOUR!  The girls were there too, even as their shining light Kristina Azzopardi was the one who came away with a first in the Long Jump, a second spot in the 300m and Ball Throw leading in Jade Ciappara and Thea Demanuele in the latter event, besides being third in the 60m sprint.  But to return to the boys, the star performer was Elai Borg, coming in first in no less than 3 disciplines; in the 60m followed in by Jamie Azzopardi, same as in the Long Jump and in the last event of the day for this category, the 300m, where Nick Bonett finished third.  Jake Vassallo won the Ball throw ahead of Hector Montane Rivier, and in the Long Jump first foursome (all ours) Alessandro Desira and Nick Bonett completed this picture.

Our U14 contingent had just three events to address, however our performances were a bit low-key with just Shanesia Azzopardi gaining a top spot, being second in the Long Jump.  Not that others fared badly.  On the contrary; without doubt, one will refer to better performances as the summer rolls on.

The third category was the U16 and our best performances were in the 100m and the Long Jump. In that for the boys blazing the track was Yan Vella, with Nathan Saliba and Aiden Micallef coming in third and fourth.  In the event for girls our mention goes to Kay Lee Testa on third, followed in fourth and fifth by Paula Sammut Peresso and Ekaterina Rolasson.  Kay turned on the power with a wonderful winning final leap measuring 4.79metres.  Ylenia Muscat and Letizia Bonnici finishing third and fourth respectively.  In the Long Jump for boys Yan Vella, in second place, finished leading a quintet of Pembroke colours, provided by Matthias Muscat, Aiden Micallef, Nicholas Azzopardi and Samuel Borg Barthet.

Our sponsor Eurosport would have loved seeing his support shining so gloriously!  Forward to the next competitions!
