Charlotte Wingfield and Janet Richard who form part of the Malta national athletics team have joined the Pembroke Athleta Athletics & Triathlon Club track & Field team for the 2018/19 season.
Wingfield and Richard are amongst five new signings by the Pembroke Club, with the others being long distance runners, Adrian & Melvin Mifsud and Joanna Camilleri.
Charlotte Wingfield, aged 23, has been a double sprint Gold Medal winner in both the 2015 and 2017 G.S.S.E. and is the current National Record Holder on the short sprints (100m and 200m). Charlotte has in recent past qualified and represented Malta at European Championships, Commonwealth Games, World Championships and the Olympic Games.
At 20 years of age, Janet Richard is the U20 National Record holder in the 400m distance. A record set in the Baku European Games in 2015. And along with C. Wingfield formed part of the 4 x 100m team setting a National Best time at the same games.
Joanna Camilleri, has represented Malta in Judo for a long number of years and has won a total of 6 GSSE medals in 5 editions. However, over the recent years she has started running and is enjoying the athletic journey – having run distances from 1,500m up to half marathon.
Melvin Mifsud has represented Malta in Mountain running team in 2014 at the world and European championships, which were held in Carrara di Massa Italy and Gap France, respectively. At the Medical and Health Games which were held in Malta last summer, Melvin won 4 medals – two silver medals in the 3,000m and 5,000m races and two bronze medals in the 1,500 m and half marathon races.
Adrian Mifsud is the 10,000 m National Champion 2010 and during the last season of 2018, he won a number of medals on the international scene. At the World Company Games in La Baule, Mifsud won a bronze medal. At the Medical and Health Games he clinched 2 gold medals and 1 bronze medal.
With these new signings Pembroke Athleta have strengthened their squad in their bid to retain their status as the leading athletics club in the Maltese islands.
