Five Category National Records by Pembroke Athleta Athletes at the 2026 London Indoor Games

The London Indoor Games, held annually at the Lee Valley Athletics Centre, once again proved to be a highly successful event for Pembroke Athleta Athletics & Triathlon Club.
Pembroke Athleta was strongly represented at the 2026 edition, with a total of 35 club members competing over two weekends. The first weekend featured Senior and Under-20 competitions, followed by Under-13, Under-15 and Under-17 events on the second weekend. Across the two weekends, Pembroke athletes achieved an outstanding five Category National Records.
The record-breaking performances began on Saturday, 17 January, when Jorrin Busuttil delivered an excellent run in the 200m indoor event, setting new Under-20 and Under-23 National Records with a time of 22.40 seconds, finishing 8th overall among a field of 50 competitors.
Further success followed the subsequent weekend at the Lee Valley Athletics Centre, where Timothy Rizzo Naudi raised the Under-16 Indoor High Jump National Record. Competing at the Junior Games, he cleared 1.61 metres, surpassing the previous record set last year by club teammate Carl Grech at the same competition.
In middle-distance events, Aurora Desira established a new Category Best in the Girls’ Under-14 Indoor 800m. She finished second in her heat and second overall, recording a time of 2:30.40.
Karina Mia Peresso also improved the Category Best Time in the Girls’ Under-16 Indoor 800m. She placed third in her heat and third overall among 18 competitors, completing the race in 2:26.05.
The 800m events continued to yield success for Pembroke Athleta, with Jack Herrera Rolè breaking his own record from last year to set a new Under-14 Indoor 800m National Best. He stopped the clock at 2:20.62, securing second place overall.
Another excellent performance came from Kaine Micallef, who won both the Under-13 60m sprint in 8.28 seconds and the Long Jump with a leap of 4.20 metres.
Overall, this proved to be another extremely fruitful international outing for Pembroke Athleta athletes, with the majority of participants recording personal bests and season best performances.
