Further successes for the Club at Ta’ Qali

ta qali race

In the wake of last week-end’s historic success for the Club at the Marsaskala Road Relay, the Road League title is now well within sight, thanks to the excellent showing of our boys at the Ta’ Qali race in the fourth competition of the Road League. This time round the foursome counting for the points were our effervescent Mark Herrera, finishing third on 33.32, Richard Chetcuti who recorded 34.55 for seventh position, Brian Magri who came in tenth on 35.39 and the 16th place won by Drew Lang on 36.17 minutes. A SUPERB victory which was well supported by no less than 11 other athletes, who in one way or another helped to keep off the opposition with their final placings. With the club now ahead by 57 points it will be nothing short of a miracle for our nearest challengers Mellieha to overtake our boys, intent on making this year all the more glorious with an equally superb team effort in the Malta Half Marathon in four weeks’ time. Back to the Road League, the Club may not have competed in the team event for the fairer sex, but the Champion form shown by our Lisa Marie Bezzina was stupendous. Winning the third of four races Lisa is now invincible and to mark the occasion, she covered the course in a fantastic time of 37 minutes 20 seconds, ahead of second-placed Rita Galea of Mellieha by more than half a minute. In truth this was the stuff that champions are made of. The Malta Half Marathon is beckoning. Let us keep our support going to encourage our long distance runners taking part in this landmark competition, as we will be welcoming our heroes and heroines back at the Track & Field in the beginning of next month.
