There is no doubting whatsoever that through the ranks of our Club and likewise throughout the years, numerous athletes have made a name for themselves, our Club, and our country. As administrators, some of us being there for many years, we have proudly seen club members representing Malta at top competitions; at the Olympics, the World Championships, the European Championships, to mention just the most prestigious.
Jeremy Zammit, a youngster still just about to turn 17 years, is one such athlete of promise, with a very big difference. In that, his star is not something for the future, even as this is the ultimate goal and expectation.
His STAR is shining BRIGHTLY even NOW!!!
In July last month, in his preferred event the Long Jump, Jeremy broke once again the National Record in both the U18 (Youth) and U20 (Junior) category, bringing the Open National Record well in sight, when he cleared 7metres 62 centimeters in the European U20 Championships held in Tallinn, Estonia. This was a European U/18 Leading jump at the time – second-best result in the World U/18 ranking, a renowned feature even in this regard.
That leap earned him a fifth placing in the competition, and with the World U20 Championships in Nairobi Kenya beckoning, our hero traveled to Africa to again show his mettle. At these Championships, in which he was the only Youth athlete for the event, even as his record remained intact at 7.62metres, Jeremy cleared 7.42 meters as his best jump, but once again he made his own the SEVENTH placing, recording a position that has NEVER been reached to date on the world stage, a true FIRST for a Maltese athlete.
The BEST-EVER, the final result ever recorded in international athletics by a Maltese.
Pembroke Athleta, Athletics & Triathlon, in this special year 2021, heartily congratulates Jeremy Zammit, his coach Mario Bonello, his supportive family, and all those within the Club, SportMalta, and the Maltese Olympic Committee, among others, who put their belief in his OUTSTANDING TALENT, knowing full well that while being among the BEST in the world is arduous and hard to maintain, his determination and perseverance will reap bigger rewards to him, to our Club and above all to MALTA.
