PEMBROKE ATHLETA ATHLETICS & TRIATHLON CLUB HIT HARD: UNSTOPPABLE AT THE 2025 NATIONAL ATHLETICS CHAMPIONSHIPS

65 Medals—Championship Records—Relay Clean Sweep—A Red Storm at Marsa


Marsa, Malta – 2, 5 & 6 July 2025 – Pembroke Athleta Athletics & Triathlon Club delivered one of the most dominant performances in recent Maltese athletics history at the 2025 National Track & Field Championships, storming to a massive 66-medal haul: 35 gold, 16 silver, and 14 bronze.

The club’s athletes in red left a powerful mark across all disciplines — sprints, middle-distance, throws, jumps, and relays — reaffirming Pembroke Athleta Athletics & Triathlon Club as Malta’s premier force in track & field.

 

Championship Records & Unrivalled Achievements


  • Championship Record – Women’s 800m:

    Gina McNamara clocked a blistering 2:05.41, setting a new national championship record. She followed this with gold in the 1500m, and anchored the victorious Mixed 4×400m Relay.


  • Age-Group National Records:

    • Dario Mangion (M35) – 1500m in 4:03.30

    • Mark Herrera (M40) – 1500m in 4:12.03, followed by another gold in the 5000m


Under 18 Mixed 4×400m Relay –The team of Roberto Filletti, Faith Grixti, Alessandro Desira and Chanelle Bezzina set a new Under 18  benchmark in 4:05.75 — the fastest time ever recorded in this event locally.

 

Outstanding Individual Performances


  • Bradley Mifsud – Dominated the throws with triple gold in discus (49.55m), javelin (51.80m), and shot put (13.31m).

  • Rachela Pace – Claimed double gold in long jump (5.94m) and triple jump (12.93m)

  • Nick Bonett (U18) – A star in the making with gold in the 200m and 400m, silver in the 100m, and two senior relay golds.

  • Jorrin Busuttil (U18) – Matched Bonett’s performance with gold in the 100m, silver in the 400m, bronze in the senior 200m, and two senior relay golds.

  • Janet Richard – Gold in the women’s 400m (55.14s) and instrumental in both women’s 4x100m and 4x400m mixed relay wins.

  • Mark Herrera – Veteran excellence on full display with commanding golds in the M40 1500m and 5000m.

 

Relay Dominance – A Clean Sweep


Pembroke Athleta Athletics & Triathlon Club delivered a full sweep in all the relay events run throughout these championships:


  • Women’s 4×100m – 47.32s

  • Men’s 4×100m – 43.51s

  • Mixed 4×400m – 3:40.21

  • A second Pembroke team also earned bronze in the mixed 4×400m—underlining the club’s performance.
