RRL Bugibba – Men’s team kept the leading momentum

The boys did us really proud today at Bugibba Road Running League series. Not that Lisa (pictured below) wasn’t exceptional in covering the 10km in 37.56 minutes, but her’s is a lonely quest in seeking to be the top female individual. Obviously she shouldn’t let up, either by not missing the last two encounters as well as posting top – if not uppermost – placings. The boys however, are a real team. A mixture of masters and juvenile quality, it was vintage Brian Magri leading the pack in finishing 9th, with another of our Masters’ brew, Drew Lang, just two positions adrift. Then we witnessed the Luke tide, the surge led by young Luke Camilleri and immediately followed by Luke Micallef. Not that the times were stretched out either. Brian clocked 35.38, Drew 36.21 and Luke squared both on 36.24 minutes. An awesome foursome finishing within less than a minute, ensuring the club a healthy lead of 58 points over second placed St Patrick’s as the League passes the half-way stage, who were nearly overtaken by Mellieha, now just one point adrift of them. Remarkable as was this show of strength, equally important was the finishing of our other athletes Daniel Pace and Peter Azzopardi within the first 18 finishers, followed by Natalino Farrugia in 22, with Leslie Camilleri completing the picture on 53rd, out of a total field of 82 men. Now THAT is an achievement too, considering other firepower not present in Bugibba, just to mention Mark Herrera, Richard Chetcuti and Dario Mangion among others.
