The Club started on its non-stadia athletic campaign for the season with a resounding success at Siggiewi on Saturday 17 October 2015. In the opening event of the Road Running League held in excellent weather conditions the club fielded no less than 18 members in the event for men.
The excellent placings, especially for our first four finishers who had their positions counting for the classification, managed to finish among the first nine – no mean feat – to bring up the points tally to just 24 penalty points, a margin of 20 points ahead of nearest challengers Zurrieq Wolves. The leading four were Mark Herrera, a former winner of this race who came in second on 16.18 minutes followed in the sixth and seventh position by our architects by profession Dario Mangion and Luke Micallef, on 16.43 and 17.09 minutes respectively. In ninth and counting for the total was up and coming youngster Luke Camilleri, in preparation for a scorching Track season this coming Spring and Summer 2016. The success for our athletes continued to be demonstrated by the finishing of our other athletes who contributed as much of the others by their performances. These were Richard Chetcuti – 10th, Matthew Scicluna – 11th, Drew Lang – 14th, Nigel Camilleri – 22nd, Matthias Cristiano – 23rd, Natalino Farrugia – 27th, James Anastasi – 32nd, David Cassar – 33rd, Mark Mifsud – 36th, Chris Bezzina – 38th, Morgan Parnis – 49th, Joseph Barbieri – 53rd, Samuel Grech – 62nd and Leslie Camilleri on 77 out of a total number of male participants at 103 entries.
In the event for females unfortunately the club wasn’t well represented but what we lacked in numbers was mad up by quality, with Lisa Marie Bezzina continuing with her starry career with a second place finish on 18.55 minutes, just 10 seconds away from the winner for Mellieha.
