Superb Results in Brno

The European Kids Athletics Games took place in Brno, Czech Republic on 6-7 September, and we are proud to announce that some amazing results have been achieved by our Pembroke Athleta youths and cadets.

Alessia Cristina has achieved some outstanding results. She secured her victory in the junior 60m final as she crossed the finish line in 8.04sec. Earlier during the heats, Cristina ran an even faster time of 7.87sec, which has been ratified as a new Games Record and also a new National Record. During the 150m heats, Cristina managed to once again add her name to Games record books, as she won her heat in 19.05sec. Eventually, she clinched her second gold medal when won the final race in 19.18 sec.

Another personal record was achieved by the youngest member of the group Kayleigh Chetcuti, as she registered a new personal best in the junior 60m race. She finished the race in 8.63sec which was enough to secure her place in Final B race, albeit wind assisted. Later on in the Final B race she crossed the line in second position with an official time of 8.70sec.

Rachela Pace was the Maltese representative in the jumping events. The longest registered jump in the Long Jump event measured 4.74m and she finished the competition in 9th place. Later on in the high jump competition, she achieved a more personal satisfying result as she managed to secure a bronze medal after clearing the 1.52m height.

Our senior member of the team, Carla Scicluna achieved another significant result. She was our representative in the senior 60m and 300m race. Scicluna reached the A final race and she successfully defeated the 8sec barrier, as she crossed the finish line in a new personal best time of 7.97sec. She was later on involved in the 300m final race and she finished her race in 42.27sec. Unfortunately, her personal best effort wasn’t enough to secure a podium position as she finished both final races in a remarkable 4th place.

In the 4x60m relay event, Carla teamed up with Martha Spiteri, Alexia Guiga and Sarah Bartolo and they finished the team event in 4th place.

Our junior girls, Kayleigh, Rachela and Alessia were teamed up with Sarah Chouhal for the 4x60m relay event. The national team selection had 3 smooth changeovers and they ran to victory in 30.93sec – 2 seconds  ahead of the other teams. It’s worth mentioning that our girls were personally congratulated by the chief of judges and he remarkably pointed out that he had never witnessed such great changeovers before.

On behalf of Pembroke Athleta committee we would like to congratulate the Junior National Team for achieving these remarkable results in this international competition.
