Pembroke Athleta Athletics Club would like to place on record its sincere thanks and deep appreciation to Beppe Grillo, one of Malta’s finest-ever sprinters, following his decision to retire from competitive athletics.
Beppe’s journey in the sport has been nothing short of remarkable. From a young and dedicated athlete to a national record holder and Olympian, he has consistently represented Malta and our club with distinction, professionalism, and integrity. His performances in the 100m and 200m events, together with his contribution to Malta’s relay teams, have set new benchmarks in Maltese athletics and inspired a new generation of athletes.
Among his many achievements, Beppe holds the Maltese national records in the 100m, was crowned National Champion in both the 100m and 200m, won medals at the Games of the Small States of Europe, and proudly represented Malta on the Olympic stage. These accomplishments are a testament not only to his natural talent, but also to years of discipline, sacrifice, and relentless hard work.
Equally important has been the partnership he shared with his coach, Steve Camilleri, whose guidance, belief, and commitment played a pivotal role in Beppe’s development and success. Together, they demonstrated what can be achieved through trust, perseverance, and an uncompromising commitment to clean sport.
In light of recent unfounded rumours, Pembroke Athleta fully supports Beppe’s clear and firm stance that his career was built on honesty and integrity. We stand by our athlete and reaffirm our belief in fair play and respect for the values of athletics.
While we are saddened to see Beppe step away from competition, we respect his decision and thank him for everything he has given to the sport and to our club. His legacy will remain part of Pembroke Athleta’s history, not only through records and medals, but through the example he set as an athlete and role model.
On behalf of the entire Pembroke Athleta family — officials, coaches, athletes, and supporters — we wish Beppe every success and fulfilment in the next chapter of his life.
Thank you, Beppe. You will always be part of Pembroke Athleta.
