Pembroke Athleta Athletics Club would like to express its sincere thanks and deep appreciation to Beppe Grillo, one of Malta’s finest sprinters, following his decision to step away from competitive athletics at the young age of 22.

Lightning can strike even when the sun is shining, and this announcement came as a surprise to many. Yet, Beppe’s journey in the sport has been nothing short of exceptional. From a young and dedicated athlete to a national record holder and Olympian, he represented Malta and Pembroke Athleta with distinction, professionalism, and pride throughout his career.

A Journey of Dedication and Achievement

Blessed with natural talent and driven by hard work, perseverance, and sacrifice, Beppe reached the pinnacle of athletics when, at just 20 years of age, he proudly earned Olympic status in 2024. Supported throughout by the guidance of coaches, technical personnel, and administrators, his achievements are a testament to his dedication.

Beppe joined Pembroke Athleta Athletics & Triathlon Club in early 2020 and quickly established himself as one of the most accomplished athletes in the club’s history. Among his many achievements, he became a multiple national record holder across various categories, including the Senior 100m record, which had stood unchallenged for more than ten years. He also set records in the Under-23 60m, 100m, and 200m, among others. Additionally, he is a five-time National Champion, underlining his consistency and dominance at the national level.

International Recognition and Legacy

On the international stage, Beppe earned medals at major competitions such as the Games of the Small States of Europe and the Balkan Senior Championships. He holds the highest points total ever achieved by a local male athlete in the history of Maltese athletics. This remarkable feat showcases his talent and dedication to the sport.

Throughout his career, Beppe benefitted from the dedication and support of several coaches and the wider athletics community. Each individual played an important role in his development as an athlete and as a person.
